This July, triple j are running a special event Hottest 100 - Hottest 100 of Like a Version. This countdown gives punters an opportunity to vote for their favourite Like a Version recordings of all time.
In past special event Hottest 100’s, like triple j’s Hottest 100 of the Decade, there is typically less listener engagement, and thus results in a smaller sample of data that 100 Warm Tunas is able to collect.
For example, in 2020, the Hottest 100 of 2019 attracted 3,211,596 votes, however, the Hottest 100 of The Decade attracted only half as many (approximately 1,800,000 votes).
Event | Triple J Votes Counted | 100 Warm Tunas Votes Counted | % |
---|---|---|---|
Hottest 100 of 2019 | 3,211,596 | 45,112 | 1.4% |
Hottest 100 of The Decade (2020) | 1,800,000 | 29,123 | 1.62% |
Hottest 100 of 2020 | 2,790,224 | 36,156 | 1.3% |
In more recent years, it’s also apparent that the overall number of votes collected by Triple J has been trending downward:
Year | Tunas Votes | ABC Votes | Sample Size |
---|---|---|---|
2022 | 41,731 | 2,436,565 | 1.71% |
2021 | 25,877 | 2,500,409 | 1.03% |
2020 | 36,156 | 2,790,224 | 1.30% |
2019 | 45,112 | 3,211,596 | 1.40% |
2018 | 58,463 | 2,758,584 | 2.12% |
2017 | 67,085 | 2,386,133 | 2.81% |
2016 | 65,412 | 2,250,000 | 2.91% |
By extrapolating this data, for this special event Hottest 100, we are anticipating that the total number of votes collected by triple j, will be closer to 1,200,000.
At the time of writing, we have collected only 4,428 votes. Assuming the total vote count of 1,200,000, that indicates a sample size of only 0.37%. This is significantly lower than any other prediction provided by 100 Warm Tunas in the past.
Due to this low volume of data collected, we are unable to provide a prediction of the full top 100. Instead, we will only be publishing our best effort prediction of the top 20.
If you are interested in viewing the Top 100 as it stands, it will be available here in CSV format and updated periodically. (Last updated: 15th July 2023 at 8:45am)
